A major component of any successful personal fitness regimen is a healthy, nutritious diet. Eating quality foods with high nutritional value is critical to good health and fitness. Today I will focus on one of my favorite fruits—the pineapple. And where else to start than with Hawaiian pineapple?

Pineapple is packed with Manganese, Vitamin C, Vitamin B1 (Thiamin), Bromelain, and antioxidants, all of which help the body’s immune system, digestive system, and energy levels. I recently saw that the Maui Gold pineapple provides 3 times the Vitamin C of traditional pineapple. Of course, I quickly drove to my local Ralph’s grocery store and bought a Maui Gold pineapple, which is grown and produced by the Maui Pineapple Company of Maui, Hawaii. It was interesting to see that the Maui Gold brand pineapple was consistently larger and more healthy and robust-looking (if I may use that phrase) than the other brands of Hawaiian pineapple available to purchase.

And yes, it was delicious. The Maui Pineapple website has a great webpage on selecting and cutting a pineapple, which was very helpful since I haven’t bought many fresh pineapples in my day. Also, I’ve always be slightly intimidated by what I thought was the complicity of pineapple preparation, but those fears were also allayed. By the way, while I was at it, it was also interesting to read the history and origins of Hawaiian pineapple.
